There are so many benefits in welcoming school pupils into a church building as part of their RE lessons and many schools are very happy to receive an invitation.

Over the years at different churches we have had the privilege of visits to the church premises by groups of both younger (year 3/4) and older (year 8/9) pupils.

We have usually negotiated 45 minutes or an hour which gives plenty of time for them to wander round drawing a plan of the worship area picking out key features (communion table, pulpit, cross on the wall, baptism pool, banners etc) and ask individual questions one to one. We have also shown a video of the believers' baptism of a young person. Then a time of open questions gives opportunity to explain what we Baptists believe.

The year 9 groups came to do a "wedding" in the church, complete with bride and groom, best man and bridesmaids, bride's father et al. The teacher even provided a wedding dress for the bride to wear! We would walk through the service and the vows and have plenty of time to talk about what Christians believe about marriage.
