Project 2016

Gorleston Baptist Church EBA project 2016

The church was built in 1868, but was bombed during the second world war, (1941) and then rebuilt in 1951 on its present site. with post war budget and poor quality materials which is why the church is in a poor state now. The Church is located in the centre of Gorleston, 4 miles from Great Yarmouth. Our church membership decided to modernise the whole building. Phase one was the Entrance to the church with toilets. Phase two was the worship area, both of which are complete. Phase three is to  refurbish the rear of the building which at present is used by the Junior Church and the twice weekly Drop- In Centre and Food Bank.

Our project is to completely refurbish the rear to include a new toilet area with shower, new entrance, new kitchen, new roof, new bright airy hall which will have a mezzanine floor with extra rooms. It will also provide a better atmosphere for the existing Drop- In folk, and to be able to make it available to the community for occasional use.

The church held a gift day in January and raised £60,000, and has been having monthly free will offerings for the building fund which has seen on average £500 per month. The Total cost for the complete building works is £300,000.

We would ask that members of the EBA:-

  1. Pray for the right builders to be found.
  2. Pray that the work may be completed as soon as possible.

We are pleased to be part of project16, and for this we would encourage churches to help us fund one part of the work, namely the new toilet area, which will be Ladies/Gents and Disabled toilets plus showers, new flooring and lighting. The cost of this area will be around £25,000

Project 2016 is a scheme that gives a chance for churches to highlight a particular project they are undertaking and to ask for financial and prayer support in their mission activities. It will continue to be for either a building project or an outreach project, but the main difference is that each year we hope there will be at least one project from each sector. We hope that this more local approach will enable churches to feel more connected with the projects that they are supporting.
